A Production with a lot of Heart!
I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph and subsequently watch this wonderful production of The Lilies of the Field at the Canyon Theatre Guild this March. This play has such a wonderful message and the production is so well-thought out; from it’s costumes to its sets and lighting design, you really are transported to the town of Piedras and back in time. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. Most importantly, you’ll reflect. This one is one for the books. Glad I got to photograph this experience and more importantly, glad I got to enjoy this show in person.
Two is Better than One
Throughout the Pandemic and as live performances have begun to resurface all over our country, special attention is being paid to swings and understudies for productions everywhere. An understudy learns a role and remains on standby hoping to get to perform said role. At the Canyon Theatre Guild understudies get at least one show where they get to perform and invite their families to see them bring those characters to life. Director Felicia Provens-Shepard insisted that the understudies should get two performances, so the amazingly talented Jason Pereira and Jeannie Johnson got to step into the Roles of Homer & Sister Mary Martha respectively. While they are performing the same show, and the direction is the same, every individual actor brings in a bit of themselves when they are performing; making it their own. Seeing other actors do the same role in essence creates a new experience a completely different performance
